Fun Would You Rather Writing Prompts For Kids

Before asking your students to write an opinion piece for you, consider engaging them in it. Read examples of opinion writing to them, highlighting how the author wrote his statement and reasonings.

Remind your students that they are writing their opinions (which is a personal belief, thought, or feelings about something that cannot be proven), not facts. (A statement that can be proven true or false.)

Use examples to explain opinions vs facts.

Here’s an example:

Fact: Planet Earth orbits the Sun once every 365.25 days.

Opinion: Planet Earth is the most beautiful planet in the solar system!

In this example, the first statement is a fact because it can be objectively verified and is universally accepted. The second statement is an opinion because it reflects a personal belief or viewpoint and is subject to individual interpretation.
