Explore these fun summer STEAM activities for kids in 2025!
Summer is here!
Whoot!
Kids are home unwinding and relaxing after a longggg year of schooling.
As a busy parent, you want to do the same, so you allow screen time for the first week or two until you’re like, OK, that’s enough!
Screens are good for only so long, so out with the screens and in with the fun and engaging STEAM activities.
What Are STEAM Activities?
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Blending these five subjects together in hands-on, engaging ways that encourage kids to think critically, ask questions, and solve real-world problems.
So, instead of focusing on just one area, let’s say, like a science experiment or an art project.
STEAM projects often combine multiple disciplines.
For example, building a bridge out of straws incorporates engineering, math, and even art if kids decorate it creatively!
These activities can be as simple as building with blocks, experimenting with colors and water, or creating a homemade volcano.
What matters most is the focus on exploration, creativity, and learning through doing.
STEAM activities will not only excite your kids, but they will also offer endless fun and learning opportunities this summer.
Benefits of STEAM Activities at Home
Doing STEAM activities with your kids at home comes with some amazing benefits.
Such as:
Encourages Curiosity – Kids naturally ask “why” and “how” – STEAM gives them a chance to explore those questions in a fun, hands-on way.
Builds Problem-Solving Skills – From trial-and-error experiments to figuring out how to make something work, STEAM helps children become confident problem-solvers.
Boosts Creativity – Whether your kids are inventing a new toy or designing a marble run, they will get to stretch their imagination while learning.
Supports Academic Growth – STEAM lays a strong foundation in subjects like math and science, which can help kids feel more prepared and excited about school.
Promotes Collaboration – Many STEAM activities can be done with siblings or parents, encouraging teamwork and communication.
Fun and Engaging – Let’s face it—kids love to build, create, and experiment! STEAM turns learning into an exciting adventure.
Whether you’re looking to prevent summer learning loss or just want to keep children’s minds busy, STEAM activities are a fantastic way to make learning fun at home.
Fun Summer STEAM Activities For Kids (2025)
Here’s my roundup of exciting STEAM activities to keep your kids entertained and educated this summer 2025.
1. DIY Science Experiments
Volcano Eruptions
This is a classic experiment and one of my kids’ favorites!
All you need is baking soda, vinegar, and a few drops of food coloring, and you are on your way to creating a mini volcano.
This experiment is a simple way to teach your kids about chemical reactions.
I promise you and your kiddos won’t be disappointed.
Rainbow in a Jar
Layer different liquids like honey, dish soap, water, and oil in a jar to create a rainbow effect.
This simple experiment demonstrates density and can be a beautiful decoration for your kitchen.
Alternatively, you can opt in for fun science experiments from MEL Science. Just Like The One Below!
Plant Growth Observation
Plant seeds or beans in clear cups and let your kids observe how plants grow over time. Growing up, I did this with black eye peas and kidney beans. And to this day, I can still remember how epic this experiment was.
Your kids can document the changes daily, learning about the life cycle of plants and the importance of sunlight and water.
Alternatively, you can purchase the National Geographic Flower Growing Kit on Amazon.
2. Engineering Challenges
Build a Bridge
It’s summer, so the chances of you having popsicle sticks are quite high.
Using popsicle sticks and glue, challenge your kids to build a bridge that can hold a certain weight. Maybe a toy car, a candy, a glue stick, etc., to encourage problem-solving and critical thinking in your kids.
Legos
If your kids are anything like mine, I bet they are Lego lovers!
Building Legos offers a multitude of benefits for children, making it much more than just a pastime.
This hands-on activity strengthens fine motor skills as kids plug small pieces together, fostering dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Legos are fantastic for stimulating creativity and imagination, allowing children to tap into their unique creations or follow complex instructions, which can improve their problem-solving abilities and spatial awareness.
3. Artistic Explorations
Nature Art
Take your kiddos on a nature walk and collect things like leaves, sticks, stones, flowers, etc. When you all get back home, use the items collected to make collages, leaf pressing, rock painting, etc.
You can then create a bin labeled 2025 summer fun and place everything you did inside, or make a 2025 summer scrapbook and place the leaf press and collages.

4. Technology and Coding
DIY Circuit Boards
Purchase a simple circuit board kit for kids and let them explore how circuits work. You and your kids can create basic electronic projects like a light-up greeting card or a simple buzzer.
5. Mathematical Fun
Math Scavenger Hunt
Create a math scavenger hunt around your home or yard where kids are expected to solve equations to find the next clue, combining physical activity with math practice.
These summer logic math puzzles may work quite well when doing a math scavenger hunt.
Math Through Baking
Baking is so much fun, and if you’re new to baking, I highly recommend you check out Preppy’s Kitchen on YouTube.
Baking was never my thing until the last three years or so, when I discovered Preppy Kitchen.
I have made so many cakes, muffins, cookies, and even scones from this channel, and they always come out amazing and delish!
Get your kiddos involved in the kitchen and have them measure ingredients by following the recipes.
This is a fun and hands-on way to help your kiddos build fluency in fractions, ratios, and percentages, enhancing their math skills as well as their reading comprehension skills.
6. Learn About Electricity
Green Kids Craft has an incredible box that will make your kids want to ditch screen time and learn about circuits, Ohm’s Law, and electricity.
Your kiddos will be able to build an electric propeller car while learning about how motors work and so much more!
Fun Summer STEAM Activities For Kids
This summer, give your kids the gift of learning through play with these fun STEAM activities.
They will be entertained and develop a love for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics that could last a lifetime.
Screen time can be beneficial, but overusing screens can have negative impacts on our kids. So, power down those screens and power up your kiddos’ imagination!
