Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15th to October 15th. Honoring the achievements and contributions of the Hispanic and Latin-American community. As a parent or classroom teacher, it’s the perfect opportunity to engage students in meaningful activities that foster appreciation and understanding of Hispanic culture. Here are some fun Hispanic Heritage Month activities and ideas to incorporate in your home or classroom to recognize and celebrate the rich contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the cultural tapestry of the United States.
Fun Hispanic Heritage Month Activities
1. Storytelling
Read Hispanic Heritage theme books throughout the month to your students or invite parents and special guests from Hispanic or Latino backgrounds to tell stories with the class.
These stories would provide invaluable insights into the Hispanic and Latino cultures providing diversity and inclusivity within your students.
Have a question-and-answer period where students are encouraged to ask any questions they may have.

2. Making Posters
Making posters and art pieces inspired by the Hispanic and Latino culture makes the perfect fun Friday activity during this month!
Students can create posters using traditional foods, apparel, music, or public figures. When students are finished with their posters and art pieces you can display their creations on your bulletin boards, classroom windows, hallways, etc.
3. Cultural Cuisine Exploration
Grab portions of popular dishes such as churros, tacos, quesadillas, cheese bread, empanadas, or arepas so your kiddos can sample. Getting a taste of authentic Hispanic foods.
4. Latin American Music and Dance
Now you have an excuse to play Selena Gomez, Sharika, and J.Lo songs for an entire month on repeat!😉
For fun Friday, you and your students can organize a dance party and dance to all your favorite Latin American music. Find a salsa or merengue dance tutorial on YouTube and you and your students can have fun learning the dance moves associated with the Hispanic culture.
5. Projects
If your students are middle schoolers you can assign a research project on well-known Hispanic public figures. Encouraging students to explore their achievements, the things they advocate for, and their contributions to the Hispanic and Latino community.

- Dolores Huerta

Students can either work in small groups or individually – creating Google Slides, posters, or presentations to share with the rest of the class.

Kids learn and retain information best through play! You can create fun Hispanic Heritage activities for your kids such as word search, word scramble, trivia, search and find, bingo games, writing activities, etc.

Lastly, you can end the month with a reflection session where students share what they’ve learned in the last month about the Hispanic cultures, their experiences, and their newfound love for the Hispanic culture.
