Are you currently introducing chapter books to your 7, 8, or 9 year old daughter? Amazing! I can only imagine how proud and excited you are that your little girl is reading chapter books now. Finding chapter books to keep her engaged can sometimes be a bit stressful and a bit of a time constraint on you. To help you save time scrolling aimlessly on Amazon, Indigo, Barnes and Noble, and other popular book sites, I’ve put together a list of some of the best chapter books for girls 7-9 years old. (With the help of my now 11-year-old daughter – at the time of writing this post.)
Best Chapter Books For Girls 7-9 Years Old
The books that I’m about to recommend to you were chosen by my daughter Sophia. She has read these books over and over and thoroughly enjoyed them during her 7-9 year era.
In all honesty, as a parent, I think these books played a vital role in fostering her love for reading at an early age.
1. The Never Girls Collection (Books 1-14)
If your daughter is obsessed with princesses, and fairies, and loves Tinker Bell and her fairy friends, she would absolutely love the Never Girls collection.
Like many young girls, Sophia adored fairies, so it was not surprising how much she enjoyed the Ther Never Girls Series which is based on Tinker Bell and her fairy friends.
Initially, we gifted her the Never Girl Books 1- 4 Collection, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She then kept asking for more Never Girl books until we got them all for her.
These chapter books were her biggest motivation in building her reading fluency.

2. The Baby-sitters Club Graphic Novel
Literally, right after The Never Girl phase, she dove into The Baby-sitters Club Graphic Novel.
She loved the comic/cartoon vibes that these books gave out, and the pages were quite vibrant and colorful. She read books 1 -13 and couldn’t get enough of them which lead her to the next series below.
3. The Babysitters Litter Sister Series
Eventually, she discovered the Babysitters Little Sister Series and dove right in!
Of course, this series was inspired by reading The Baby-Sitters Club, which she could not have gotten enough of.
Your young daughter will indeed find this series enjoyable as many situations relate to real life.
4. Dream Pony by Usborne
It is an exciting and interesting chapter book based on the Animal Rescue Dolls, who discovered a young pony while on a trip to the Wild Isle. The Dolls need to come up with a creative plan on how they can help the trap pony.
5. Unicorn Academy
Rainbow of Adventure is a magical tale that follows the adventures of a young girl and her unicorn as they navigate friendship, courage, and teamwork at a special academy for unicorn riders. Together, they will uncover secrets, solve mysteries, and experience heartwarming adventures.
Your little girl will love this book for its enchanting world, relatable characters, and the incredible bond shared by the girl and her unicorn.
It’s a perfect read if your little girl is a fan of magic and friendship!
6. Upside Down Magic Series
This is based on a group of kids at a magic school who have upside-down magic and are treated differently from those with perfect magical skills. The kids with upside-down magic join focuses and use their power collaboratively to prove that they also matter. Will it work?
These books were eventually turned into a movie that can be streamed on Disney+.
7. You Are An Amazing Girl
As a mom, I love inspiring my daughter through inspiring stories, autobiographies, quotes, and affirmations. And that’s precisely what this book is. A compilation of inspiring stories on courage, friendship, and inner strength.
8. Ivy and Beans’s Treasure
This series is based on two best friends who discover a map and set off on a hilarious quest to find buried treasure in their neighborhood. Along the way, they encounter unexpected challenges and use their creativity and teamwork to solve problems.
Your little girl will enjoy this book for its humor, adventurous spirit, and heartwarming friendship between Ivy and Bean.
9. Junie B. Jones
Let’s keep the humor going with Junie B. Jones!
Your little girl will be laughing through these books non-stop, like seriously, non-stop. Lol.
This series follows the everyday adventures and quirky antics of Junie B. A spirited and relatable kindergartener-turned-first grader.
Each book captures her humorous observations, mischievous schemes, and heartfelt moments as she navigates school, friends, and family life.
Junie B.’s spunky personality and the way she embraces her unique perspective on the world will give your little girl something to ponder on.
10. Amelia Bedelia
A lovable and literal-minded girl who often misinterprets instructions with hilarious results. Whether she’s tackling school projects, helping out at home, or embarking on adventures with friends.
Amelia’s misunderstandings lead to laugh-out-loud moments and creative problem-solving.
Your daughter will enjoy Amelia’s quirky personality, heartwarming kindness, and the silly scenarios that keep the stories fun and engaging.
11. Bad Guys
This series was inspired after watching the movie Bad Guys. Now, my eight-year-old son is devouring this series. And, as a parent, I couldn’t be more grateful for this.
Okay, so this series is an action-packed and hilarious chapter-book series that follows a group of “bad guy” animals— a wolf, a shark, and a snake—who decide to change their image and become heroes. Their attempts to do good often lead to wild, chaotic adventures filled with laugh-out-loud moments and unexpected twists.

The story is told through the perspectives of shy Virgil, brave Valencia, self-assured Kaori, and a troublemaker named Chet. When a prank goes wrong, the friends must work together to save Virgil. Leading them to learn about friendship, courage, and embracing who they truly are.

Four best friends will discover they have special powers and magical animal companions.
Together, they will use their abilities to protect their town from dark magic and solve mysterious problems.
