Fun Facts About Eid and Ramadan
Eid al-Fitr is a joyous occasion that marks the end of Ramadan. A holy month of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims around the world.
Eid is also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast” and is a time for family gatherings, delicious food, sharing, and giving.
Here are some fun facts about Eid and Ramadan that you can share with your kiddos:
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan – That is the month (usually 29 – 30 days) when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.
Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam – The five pillars are the main principles that guide a Muslim’s faith.
Muslims break their fast at sunset – Before eating a full meal, following the tradition of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Muslims break their fast at sunset typically with something sweet, such as dates.
Eid celebrations begin with a special prayer – On Eid day families pray at the mosque or their homes together.
Giving to charity (Zakat al-Fitr) – This is an important part of Eid. Ensuring that those in need can also celebrate the holiday. Zakat is usually given a few days before Eid.
Traditional Eid foods vary by country – But sweets like baklava, sheer khurma, and sawine are some common treats.
Children often receive gifts or money – Kids often receive gifts or money as part of their Eid celebrations.
Muslims greet each other with “Eid Mubarak,” – When translated this means, “Blessed Eid.” Or, “Happy Eid.”

Eid Word Search – I designed this word search to help your kids familiarize themselves with keywords related to Eid. In this free printable, your kiddos will search for words like – Eid, Mubarak, Ramadan, mosque, prayer, sweets, family, crescent, etc. This printable activity will also help build your kids’ vocabulary.
Eid Word Scramble – Challenge your kids with a word scramble on Eid! They will have fun unscrambling jumbled words like – Mubarak, Ramadan, prayer, mosque, gift, charity, etc. This is a great activity to reinforce spelling and word recognition.
Eid I Spy Game – This I Spy worksheet is an excellent way for kids to practice observation skills. The free printable features Eid-themed images such as prayer mats, mosques, prayer beads, etc. Your kids will search, count, and find the correct number of each item. Making it an interactive and engaging activity. If they wish they can color these images as well.
True or False Eid Quiz – This worksheet is designed to test children’s knowledge on how much they remembered Eid after reading the Eid fun facts that I included. This activity is a great way to reinforce learning about Eid in a fun and interactive way!
How to Make Eid Fun at Home?
Here are some ways to make Eid a memorable and exciting day for your kids!
Decorate Your Home – Hang up Eid banners and balloons. You can also use crescent moon and star decorations.
Plan a Special Eid Feast – Let your kids help cook or decorate cookies and cupcakes. Serve their favorite dishes and traditional Eid sweets. Have a family picnic indoors or in the backyard if weather permits.
Give Out Eidi (Gifts and Treats) – Surprise your kids with Eidi (money in envelopes) or give them a small gift such as books, puzzles, legos, etc.
Goodie bags – My kids love to receive goodie bags so I usually fill their favorite treats in a bag or box for them.
Organize Fun Eid Games – You can play Eid-themed bingo or trivia with your kids. (You can use the free worksheets included in your download.) You can also have a treasure hunt for their Eid gifts or goodie bags.
Watch an Eid Movie or Storytelling Time – Stories and videos are also fun and engaging ways to teach kids about Eid. Watch videos and stories on YouTube or read books to them. My kids love the book – Most Exciting Eid by Zeba Talkhani.
Do a Kindness Challenge With Your Kids – Make Eid greeting cards for family and neighbors. Or donate toys or food to those in need. Or even calling or video chatting with distant relatives to wish them “Eid Mubarak!”
