Character Education Lessons For Elementary Kids

1. Building Empathy and Understanding

Too often we see children teasing and laughing at others because they lack empathy. As parents and teachers, we can help cultivate empathy in our kids early on. Teaching them to be understanding of the feelings of others through real-world examples, role-playing, activities/worksheets, and open discussions. 

It’s only when our kiddos are encouraged to step into the lives of another they experience a sense of understanding for that individual’s situation and cultivate compassion for the said individual. 

2. Cultivate Integrity

Integrity is one of our top three values as a family. As a parent, I introduce honesty, respect, and responsibility at a very tender age to my two kids. Demonstrating the correlation between their words, actions, and values.

As a parent or classroom teacher, you could cultivate integrity in your students through storytelling, role-playing, and reflective lessons. Thus, helping your kids cultivate honesty, respect, and responsibility for others and themselves.

3. Foster Grit and Resilience

Flexible thinking activities are amazing when it comes to reminding our students that when things don’t go as planned it’s a perfect opportunity for learning and growing.

To be flexible and look for a positive outcome from setbacks or difficult situations that life throws at them.

4. Empower & Inspire

Character education lessons can be a source of empowerment and inspiration to elementary kids. Encouraging them to embody the values of integrity, resilience, and empathy for themselves and others. Resulting in confident and compassionate kids who would advocate and stand up for what’s right, cheer on, and empower others to be and do their best.
